Twin Cities Wedding Mini Dessert Table and 4 Tier Cake: Jordyn & Pete

This soft and romantic cake and dessert table is a nice twist on the vintage theme.  We knew right away that this would be a fun table to put together.  The bride, groom, and bride's mother came in with lots of ideas.  And it didn't hurt that the MOB owns a vintage furniture store!

This 4 tier wedding cake with pale pink cream cheese icing and dusty peach sugar flowers was the perfect focal point for this table.  Arranged in an old suitcase lined with silk, this cake was filled with vanilla bean cake layered with rich chocolate ganache, vanilla bean mousse and crushed fresh raspberries.

Mini desserts included Black Velvet Cake Lollipops, Southern Banana Pudding and Dark Chocolate Dessert Shooters, Vanilla French Macarons Tinted Pink, Sinfully Chocolate Mini Cupcakes, and Carrot Cake Cupcakes.

I love the subtle color palette and refined rustic-ness  (yes, I did just create my own word!) of it all.  And this is a perfect example of a gorgeous cake with not one ounce of fondant - for those who are always asking me for alternatives.

This wedding was also featured on the Half Baked blog so check it out there too!

Minneapolis Wedding Cake and Dessert Table: Sarah and Dennis

With a fun color scheme of navy blue, green, and orange, we knew that Dennis and Sarah's wedding at Five Event Center was going to be a festive celebration.  And with photographer Cadence Cornileus behind the camera, all of the beautiful details and sweet moments were sure to be captured.

The dessert table featured a two tier cake with the queen Anne's lace design from their invitation along with a great assortment of mini desserts including Dark Chocolate and Southern Banana Pudding Dessert Shooters, Peanut Butter Cake Lollipops, Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies, Lemon Raspberry Mini Cupcakes, and Fresh Fruit Tartlets.  Also displayed was an adorable figurine that mimicked the couple perfectly.  Congrats Sarah and Dennis!

Cocoa & Fig on the Cooking Channel

Earlier this week, we made our television debut showcasing our modern twist on a classic dessert: Southern Banana Pudding Dessert Shooters.  The show - Food(ography) with Mo Rocca - featured iconic sweet treats from around the country and aired on the Cooking Channel.  It was such an honor to be invited to be on the show, and such a whirlwind of taping in our kitchen that happened within a matter of days back in May. Our segment was short but sweet, and we're so happy to have been given the opportunity to share our dessert shooter creation with the world.

Here are some behind-the-scenes shots of the taping!

Our amazing florist friend Jackie Just from Just Bloomed offered to create floral arrangements for the dessert table set up for the taping.

So what's the story behind our Southern Banana Pudding Dessert Shooters?
The idea for our decadently creamy Southern Banana Pudding Dessert Shooters was inspired by my love of everything banana.  My grandmother made the most amazing banana bread when I was growing up and I couldn’t get enough – often eating half the loaf myself!  I also spent a short time in Durham, North Carolina and one of my favorite restaurants was Cooks Corner.  They serve the most amazing Southern Banana Pudding I have ever tried!  It’s a rather large serving that comes in a bowl and it’s topped with fluffy, toasted meringue.  Just thinking about it makes me hungry!  We’ve scaled down this version into a mini size that’s perfect for a post-dinner treat.

The shooters are made by layering vanilla bean custard, fresh bananas, crushed Nilla Wafer cookies, and fresh whipped cream.  Many clients say it tastes like banana cream pie in a glass!

Our Banana Pudding Dessert Shooter recipe can be found on the Cooking Channel's website.
