THE BRIDAL PARTY

We spent last Sunday at The Bridal Party wedding show held by Minneapolis/St Paul Magazine. The Metropolitan Ballroom hosted the event. We love having the chance to meet engaged couples and show them our work. Weeks before the event we began planning our display. For those new to our world, we offer a variety of dessert options for wedding receptions. I like to break our options into three categories: cakes, cupcakes, and dessert tables. The dessert table has become more popular in recent years and they are so much fun to put together! For this show, we decided to do something a little different, a little brighter!

We chose gorgeous shades of orange and yellow: tangerine and sunburst. All the desserts and candy for this table were in shades of tangerine and sunburst which made for a fabulous table. But a dessert table is never complete without flowers, so we called the best in the biz: Jackie Just of Just Bloomed. Check out the amazing flower balls atop fruit filled vases she put together for us. Not only is her work impeccable, she's also one of the kindest people we've had the pleasure of working with. And talent must run in the family, because her sister, Jennie of Sewell Photography, took these amazing shots of our display. Thanks guys!

FARMERS MARKET BREAKFAST

There's a little rumor that started this summer and it goes something like this: The best breakfast in Minneapolis is outdoors at the Prior Lake Farmer's Market. I'm not sure just how or when it started, but it seems to be true. I haven't posted much about our breakfast on the blog because we've been so busy with weddings, cakes, catered events, the list goes on. And we kind of like to keep secrets. But since there are only 2 more Saturdays to enjoy a hidden gem of a breakfast, we thought we'd share the secret. Stop by the Prior Lake Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings (October 3 & 10 for this season) from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. And be sure to order one of the following, your stomach will thank you!

BLT Fried Egg Sandwich
2 fried eggs, rosemary maple bacon, lettuce, tomato, guacamole & basil aioli

Crab Cakes Benedict
english muffin, crab cakes, basted eggs & cajun remoulade

AQUA, BLUE, & RED WEDDING CAKE

Wedding colors are getting a lot more interesting. We love traditional color combinations, but it's always fun to do something different! Here is a beautiful cake using the bride's colors of aqua blue, red and pearl.

The aqua blue colored fondant really makes the cake pop!

Fresh flowers were provided by Sassafras Floral. The cake was delivered to Jax Cafe in Northeast Minneapolis.

The Bridal Party

We're busy getting ready for our first bridal show of the season, The Bridal Party by Minneapolis/St.Paul Weddings Magazine. On Sunday, September 20, you can find us at the Metropolitan Ballroom from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Stop by for a sample of our famous Black Velvet cake! Pictures of our table display will be posted after the show. It might just be our best dessert display yet!

The Power of Fresh Flowers

One of our favorite dessert displays is a custom dessert table. So many little miniature desserts for guests to choose from. And no two are ever the same! We created this display for a wedding reception at Sul Lago in Prior Lake. The bride's colors of Tea Rose and Clover were used for the 6-inch cake topper on our round cupcake tower which is filled with Black Velvet Baby Cakes.

A custom ivory satin linen and pink and green ribbons add accents to the platters of mini desserts. Notice in the photo below that there are empty vases. This photo was taken while we waited for the florist to arrive. Fresh flowers add to much to a dessert table as you can see in the next photo.


Flowers provided by The Loft Bridal add the finishing touch to this table. Consider adding fresh floral arrangements to your dessert table for a professional, finished look.

Corporate Event

We love making desserts for any and every function. This year we've been getting a lot of corporate requests. We created this custom dessert table for Gray Plant Mooty, a law firm in Minneapolis. They were just named one of Minnesota's "Best Places to Work" by the Minneapolis/St.Paul Business Journal for the seventh consecutive year! What better way to celebrate than with cupcakes?

You can see the company colors in the above logo. We decided this color palette would be perfect for their dessert table.


This two-tiered cake served as the centerpiece for the table. Decorated with stripes, dots and stars, its fun and playful.

Our square cupcake towers are holding 250 cupcakes in three different flavors:
Black Velvet with Cream Cheese Icing
Vanilla Bean Cake with Vanilla Bean Buttercream
Almond Cake with Caramel Buttercream


Each tower was then topped with its own cake which matched the two-tier center cake.

Love is in the Air

We were recently asked to participate in a friendly Cupcake Challenge. I'm always up for a little competition, especially when it involved one of my favorite pastries.
